The Buildside buying guides
Desk essentials for developers: start with the space you use
Start a developer desk setup with the space your computer, keyboard, and mouse actually need. Add a mouse pad or coffee mug only when it suits a routine you already have. You do not need a desk full of accessories to make it your own.

This guide compares two items in our own Buildside collection: a mouse pad and a coffee mug.
Measure the mouse space before choosing a pad
Set your laptop or keyboard where you normally use it. Move the mouse through the range you find comfortable, then measure that area. Check that a pad would fit without hanging off the desk or pushing other items into the way.
The charcoal Buildside Desk Pad is pictured beside a laptop with a mouse on top. Treat it as a mouse-pad option, not a promise of a mat large enough for your whole keyboard and mouse setup. Confirm the product’s dimensions with shop support if you need an exact fit.
Choose a coffee mug around how you take breaks
The warm-white Daily Mug puts the Buildside wordmark on a familiar desk object. It may suit a home workspace where you already use an open cup.
If you carry drinks between meetings or commute with them, think about whether you need a lidded travel container instead. Keep drinks clear of electronics, and check capacity and care instructions before buying for a specific routine.
Keep the visual choices simple
The Desk Pad uses charcoal with a small orange stacks mark. The Daily Mug pairs warm white with the orange and black logo. Consider how those colors sit with the desk and equipment you already own.
Start with the item you would use most often. Buying the matching item later is still an option; there is no need to replace a working mouse pad or a favorite cup just to complete a set.
What to check on a product page
- The current price and stock for the option you want.
- Dimensions or capacity if space or volume matters.
- Confirmed material and care information for how you plan to use it.
- Shipping eligibility, total cost, and return terms.
A photograph can show the design, but it cannot establish the dimensions, surface performance, or care requirements. Ask for any missing detail before placing an order. Avoid treating a size comparison in a styled photograph as a measurement.
Buying for someone else’s workspace?
Ask which part of their desk they want to change. If the answer is “nothing,” consider another kind of gift rather than adding clutter. Our guide to gifts for startup founders compares the desk items with tees and a cap.
Browse the collection for current prices, then check shipping and returns. All product prices are in US dollars; the final checkout total includes the shipping charge and applicable taxes.
